Going to see you guys for the 12th time tomorrow in NY. Incredibly pumped about that as always...
I have a random question. I'm auditioning for 'The Voice' for next season in a few weeks. Not sure a rock/metal voice will be popular enough to make it on this show, but if I do....they have sessions where you do a live performance and have a band or artist with you (pump up ratings to watch I guess), if I make it, and the show lets me, would you be up for going up on stage with me so I can rip out a Trivium track on live TV? Preferably something brutal....DT & A or Suffocating... something that showcases a variety of voice contortions as opposed to just singing or screaming...any thoughts?
I just read DevilDriver is going to be on the 2011 tribute to the 20th anniversary of the Black Album.... and I remember the band mentioning some time ago there could be a cover on the record and they went back into the studio to record "something" for "something".....
If this is the case, I'd want to see Trivium do Sad but True or Through the Never since Holier than Thou is taken... what about everyone else?
From ember to inferno (literally), we have watched a young group of guys evolve into a machine with potential to etch their name amongst the top greats in music history or remain just another amazing metal band.
Any "realist", would admit that they are one of the only, if not the only, current metal band that has the potential to write a black album, and redefine metal once again and bridge the gap to the next new wave as Metallica once did. We all know Metallica's fan favorites, and most mentioned are all from the 80's, but the black album catapulted them from, "just another band", to "the band". Trivium has that potential and can surely take the crown.
The biggest question is...do they want to? 'About to get ripped apart by people who are ignorant to the truth', but they can fall suit with Slayer (who metal heads love), but THATS IT. I love Slayer, but I'm a metalhead, the masses do not like Slayer, and nor will they ever. They have never taken it to another level and been willing to write material outside of their comfort zone.
The haters can trash that fact all you want, but it is a fact. Trivium have proven that with every record, it's different than the next, and they are willing to take chances, but I'm curious to see how far they are willing to stretch their sound. I don't want another cookie cutter metal band, but I know Trivium can redefine all that is metal and melodically capture the ears of the masses, but still keep the brutality that keeps us begging for more.
Longevity and success are accompanied by evolution and change and it's going to be a wild ride watching where these guys end up as I know they have the potential to be right up there in the Top 5 metal bands of all time 30 years from now.
The interviews about this record don't show signs of this being their "black album", but is it coming? Bigger question, is the world ready for it?
